Here is the 12″ x 12″ art quilt I completed in January for the Quilt Surface Design Symposium challenge.
I’ve tried a new technique on each of the three pieces I have completed. This one has more bling than I usually use. The face is free motion quilting in black thread on a gold metallic fabric. The black-with-shiny-gold print was perfect for spacing seed beads, which are applied both to add color and to join the three layers of the quilt together. This is the first beading I have done on a quilt. I wanted to test whether the effect was worth the effort. The color and shine of the beads shows up better “in person” than in a photo, but I think it was worth the extra time to sew the beads on.
